Welcome - ZOMZ

Welcome to the website of ZAWF
The Zakynthian Animal Welfare Fund is an association for the protection of stray animals. We arrange sterilisations, we provide veterinary care and we foster stray animals until they are adopted by animal-friendly families. We educate the local citizens and in particular the schools on animal welfare.

The “ZAWF School Bag” is visiting schools in Zakynthos with the purpose of educating the next generations so as to have the right principles towards animals. It contains a rich packet of informative material about animal welfare issues and responsible pet ownership, power-point presentations, games and activities for children ages 5-13. If you wish to use the “Zawf School Bag” for your class, please contact us through e-mail.

«Children trained to extend justice, kindness and respect to animals become more just, kind and considerate in their relations to one another. The cultivation of the spirit of kindness to animals is but the starting point toward that larger humanity that includes one’s fellow of every race and clime. A generation of people trained in these principals will solve their international difficulties as neighbours and not as enemies.»

Parent-Teacher Association Congress in 1993

We can only limit the number of strays
by controlling the number of births from our pets.

STERILISE your animals

Too many puppies and kittens are abandoned each year because we are biased and avoid sterilising them.

STERILISE YOUR PETS and HELP WITH THE STERILISATION OF STRAYS.

Sterilisation is a simple operation and not dangerous even in pregnancy. Sterilised animals are healthier and longer-living because they are not adversely effected by lack of mating and from continuous births, they do not suffer cancer of the uterus and are less likely to escape and fight with each other. They do not put on weight if they are active and fed correctly, nor does their personality change.

If you wish to sterilise a stray from your neighbourhood, contact the Zakynthos Animal Welfare Fund via e-mail (info@zawf.gr) or leave a message (on 6946986589) with your name and telephone number so that we can contact you. Our association will undertake the sterilisation of the animal.

  • More information about sterilisastion can be found in the menu button F.A.Q.

Abandoned animals have minimal chances of survival because:
· They fall victims of poisoning.
· They are involved in road accidents.
· They are mistreated, they are persecuted, they are tortured.

«As long as a man decimates animals, he will fight and kill his fellowman.
Indeed, when you bring death and pain you really can’t bring joy and love.»
